“What a doula?…” you ask…. what can I say I am a women of many talents… however professional doula is NOT one of them… but I did get to channel all my doulaing power as I was honored to be with one of my dearest friend’s Katy’s labor and delivery of her 3rd son!
She labored completely naturally and let me just say… she’s a straight up hero. She made it look easy… and for anyone who has been in labor, you know it is definitely not. So I busted out everything I could remember from my Bradley class and tried to help and support her the best I could. Although there was one time I was giving her counter pressure on her lower back during a contraction. She was sitting on a big exercise ball and had to ask me to stop pushing so hard because I almost knocked her over… let’s just say I don’t think Becoming a doula or birth coach will be in my future career path. This leads me into my first and favorite Friday Fave….
LOVE: To say I loved being with Katy and seeing perfect and sweet baby Noah be born is an understatement. Words cannot explain the beauty of such a moment. Truly every life from the moment of conception is a divine miracle, worthy of honor and celebration!
I can’t top that, but here are a few other highlights from the week starting with something that made me,
LAUGH: Y’all I never even tried to be a “Pinterest perfect” Mom… details are not my jam, but celebrating certainly is… unfortunately I tend to overestimate how much celebrating we can fit in with a nursing baby and 2 toddlers… my strength of overestimating finds us making Valentine cookies a week before St. Patrick’s Day…
I know, I know… it’s like I should get a double medal for “Doula and Mom of the year”. Here’s to celebrating the fact that my kids could care less if we make the valentines cookies in February or in March!!!
LINGER: If you’ve been following a long the past 2 weeks you have probably seen our Enneagram and Motherhood Series (Read it Here!). I recently discovered there are songs written for each type and although I think the purpose of them is more for deep introspection- it honestly made me laugh because of how accurate mine was for type 7… and then of course I had a moment of deep introspection and revelation about my personality which was promptly interrupted by the realization that my kids had stripped in the back yard and were dancing around naked with the hose on…so if you are hoping to truly linger over your song… turn it on after bed time, & let me know if your song felt accurate to you!
LIKE: This is random, but hopefully helpful to someone out there! This natural cough medicine is made for babies!* and it works! It has been a lifesaver for Z this winter. I checked with my pedi and he didn’t recommend it until I believe 6 months. So definitely check with your dr. I also love their cough medicine for toddlers. (As you may have ascertained by the aforementioned story about my attempts to play “doula” I am not a medical professional. Please seek medical advice from a professional before giving your kids medicine.)
