Fall is here… and when you are living in Texas it helps to just say it emphatically standing directly under the AC vent because that is the only way to even survive drinking a PSL without suffering heat stroke….
Is it just me or is the Fall the time of year you are presented with the most opportunities? Maybe its living in a college town, but sonetimes it feels like my “year” actually starts in September and its very important (especially as a recovering people pleaser) to asses my priorities and commitments. I like to do this 3 times a year -September, January and May- (once again following the school calendar) but any 3 times/seasons of the year that make the most sense for your work/life flow is awesome.
To easily asses my roles and commitments I do a simple exercise called Roles and Goals.
I made y’all a FREE PRINTABLE to go along with my post today…its a pretty simple process, but makes a huge difference for me in knowing if I am committing to the right things in each season, and it helps me quickly define what my goals are and make at least one action step right then to accomplish my goal. Here’s a quick glimpse of the sheet.
The process is very simple. Think of any role you have. Some possible roles are:
- Mom or Dad
- Wife or Husband
- Sister or Brother
- Aunt or Uncle
- Your profession
- Your hobby
- Your ministry role
- Your community service role
- Personal Roles: Such as Your Body, Your Mind, Your Spirit
Go through each Role you have and Write out 1-2 Goals for that Role. Than consider one Action Step you can take to fulfill that goal.
Here’s part of mine from this Fall, if it helps you see what a few examples might be.
Once you have gone through these steps for every role in your life, its a good time to evaluate. Is there too much on my plate or too little? I always do this process in a prayerful way. I look at what I already am doing (i.e. being a Mom and Wife) and ask the Lord what I should add to that, if anything, for the next season. I also ask God to show me, if He hasn’t already what my goal(s) should be for those different roles. After I have finished this, I look at my action steps for each goal and then get out my planner and schedule when and how I am going to complete my action steps.
I hope this printable helps you assess where your focus should be in this next season. Keep the Roles and Goals sheet close by so you can refer back to it in the coming weeks! If you missed the link above you can get the FREE ROLES AND GOALS PRINTABLE HERE.
So what are your goals for this Fall season? I would love to hear in the comments below!
