It’s Officially Summer… well it’s actually been “summer” here for at least a month #texas – but ya know, school is out, the pools are open, and the watermelon is ripe!
And the watermelon isn’t the only thing “ripe” around here… the other day we were looking at a book with a picture of a watermelon in it and my very diplomatic 3 year old points at the watermelon and says, “Mama, that looks like your belly”… yes, yes it does… 39 weeks on Friday!!!
So while we wait for Baby to get here.. I thought I would share with you my favorite pure and safe spf care for my extremely sensitive face and lips… because I have become sort of an unofficial expert on this topic… here’s a little of the backstory on how I unintentionally developed some expertise in this area….
In my early twenties I started experiencing HORRIBLE, cystic acne. I would get deep and painful zits that would take a month or longer to go away. By the time they left more would be forming under my skin. I tried everything, every lotion, potion, acne/skin product and nothing worked. I could have filled a U-Haul with my skin care products that failed. Sometimes I would see results for a month or so but inevitably my skin would go back to its obnoxious, painful self. I remember being so frustrated about my skin, because this had gone for years that I literally started praying for an answer. Isn’t it awesome how God cares about things as admittedly superficial as my cystic acne?
I eventually learned through a professional make – up artist that most skin care and make – up products were filled with preservatives, dyes, fragrances, toxins and LOTS of other bad stuff and that this was at minimum aggravating my skin if not causing my skin problem. She sent me an email naming the worst brands for skin care and bascially I was using all their products…main stream companies like Neutrogena and Loreal to name a few. Around the same time I “stumbled” upon this all natural face cleaner from a the company Carly’s Clear and Smooth…their website looked old school, it was a mom and pop shop…I seriously wondered when I ordered their products if I would even get anything in the mail….but guess what???? Carly’s Clear and Smooth face wash,*combined with me eliminating (as much as I could) face products that were filled with BAD STUFF…. almost completely got rid of my acne. This was about 10 years ago, and the pure options as far as sunscreen and foundation/BB creams were very limited. Most products I tried around that time, didn’t cover or last very well and were crazy expensive. Now with the increased understanding about the dangers of toxins/chemicals/perservatives in our skincare products there are so many more safe options out there, that are reasonably priced….and once again…I feel like I have tried them all…
2 things I have had a particularly hard time finding have been a facial sunscreen that didn’t make me break out and didn’t leave a white cast that so many of the pure mineral based products leave. Last summer I just walked around with a white glow #justcallmecasper because I couldn’t find a sunscreen that didn’t make me break out and didn’t leave a whitish cast…and I just decided I would rather have no acne and protected skin….but this summer…I have found it and to make things even better….I can buy it on amazon…basically all my dreams have come true! Its *Babo Botanicals Daily Sheer Sunscreen for Sensitive Skin. This stuff is amazing, pure mineral based sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast and doesn’t make me break out. I have been putting this on my face and neck everyday, and re-applying if I go outside again later in the day. Also, I feel like it leaves my skin moisturized, instead of dry and sticky like so many other sunscreens do. Not sure exactly how this works, but I feel like it almost acts as a primer to my B.B. cream.
Speaking of B.B. creams, I have been searching for several years for a B.B. cream that has SPF and doesn’t make me break out… I have tried so many… perhaps filled another U- haul full (ok at least a bathroom drawer) full of the ones that have made me break out -even ones that were “natural”… it’s a whole other post for a whole other time… but basically this is the best stuff I have found so far, Beauty Counter’s Dew Skin. I am going to be honest with you and tell you there are pros and cons on this product.
- Doesn’t make me break out!
- Ease of a B.B. cream
- Has SPF in it
- Feels great on your skin, moisturizing but doesn’t make you “glow” in a hot oily mess sort of way.
- I really trust and respect all the work this company Beauty Counter is doing to ensure safe and natural products, you can read all about their awesome company here and if you need a consultant, I would highly recommend my friend Jordan Morchat. She’s amazing!
- Its coverage is a little lighter than I prefer.
- I have been going through the bottle rather quickly which means it’s on the higher end of cost at least for me.
Now on to the lips… I must tell you that finding a good SPF for my lips hadn’t really been keeping me up at night… (it’s the peeing EVERY HOUR that has been… !!!) But the all knowing wisdom of Amazon led me to try this lip product and I really love it! It’s by the makers of the face SPF I adore. Here’s the thing, burned lips hurt- but everytime I have bought a chapstick or lip product with SPF, it has made my lips dry or left a funky white residue.* Babo Botanicals Lip Tint not only offers natural SPF protection, but it’s moisturizing and you can buy different color tints… so ya know… I feel a little fancy with it on. Ummm yeah…my definition of “fancy” has changed a lot since becoming a Mom…anyone else???
Here I am this morning – with the “face of summer”. I.e. my sunscreen, B.B. cream, SPF chap stick (wearing Wild Rose), a stroke of mascara and a swipe of bronzer… and I did it in like 3 minutes… ok maybe let’s call it 5 minutes, Because #momtime. But if I wasn’t stopping every 30 seconds to make sure my kids weren’t wrestling in the kiddie pool it would have been 3 minutes… it’s not fancy but it works- and this is how I will look 95% of the summer… unless ya know I glam up my look for all those fancy events I will be attending post partum…
Ok friends! That’s it for today… once again I am not paid to tell you about these products- I am just a person that spent way to much time, $ and stress trying to find some answers and I get really passionate about helping others who may be experiencing the same thing!
Tell me your favorite natural beauty products????
